How many tickets can be booked in IRCTC

Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is the official website of Indian Railways which offers an online platform for booking train tickets. It is the most popular and convenient way for passengers to book their tickets. But, one question that often arises in the minds of passengers is how many tickets can be booked in IRCTC?

Maximum number of tickets allowed

The maximum number of tickets that can be booked on IRCTC is limited to six tickets per user ID in a month for general class booking. For Tatkal booking, a maximum of four tickets can be booked per user ID in a single session.

It is important to note that this limit is not per day, but per month. Therefore, if a passenger has booked six tickets in a particular month, then he/she cannot book any more tickets in that month, even if the tickets are for a journey in the next month. However, the restriction is relaxed for the online booking of tickets by physically disabled persons, who can book the tickets on production of a disability certificate issued by a competent medical authority.

IRCTC also allows group bookings. For group bookings, the maximum number of tickets that can be booked is 12 for Sleeper Class and 6 for AC Class.

Reason for the Limit

IRCTC has introduced this limit to curb the misuse of the railway ticketing system. It was noticed that some people were booking a large number of tickets and then selling them at a higher price, leading to the black marketing of railway tickets. By imposing a limit on the number of tickets that can be booked, IRCTC has made it difficult for such people to carry out this practice.

How to Book Tickets on IRCTC

Booking tickets on IRCTC is a simple process. The first step is to create a user ID on the website. Once the user ID is created, the passenger can login to the website and select the source and destination stations, and the date of travel. The website will then display the available trains on that particular route, along with their timings and fare.

After selecting the desired train, the passenger can select the class of travel and provide the passenger and contact details. Payment can be made through various secured online payment methods like debit card, credit card, eWallets, or net banking.

The IRCTC limit of six tickets per user ID per month is a good initiative to curb black marketing of railway tickets. It ensures that genuine passengers have a fair chance of booking their tickets at the right price. It is advisable to plan your travel in advance and book your tickets as soon as the booking window opens to avoid any last-minute rush and inconvenience.

With the simple user-friendly steps and the convenience of online booking, IRCTC has made it easier for passengers to book their train tickets without any hassles.
